Several of my older brass steamers with DCC decoders installed were having problems running over turnouts because of the older technology (picking up power only on opposet sides of engine &tender ) made them tend to stall on the turnouts this was solved easily by installing Tomar Track shoes.have not got to the tender as yet...hopefully today.
So anyone having similar problems may wish to look into these. their fairly easy to install just keep in mind that placement is critical when installing them between the wheels.
Try power routing the frogs on your turnouts.
All frogs on our huge layout (20X50 two level) are powered,,thats the thing with DCC, even the slightest speck of dirty track or contact loss will cause stalling on these older conversions, the newer DCC equipted products from Bachmann ,BLI, MTH Etc.because they are all wheel pickup fortunely do not have this problem. therefor the extra contact area is needed.
Just finished installing a shoe on the tender of this bad boy, can't hardly wait to check her out on our club DCC layout
