Advice needed on DCC sound decoder replacement.
Posted by Blaine's Trains on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 6:31 PM

Hi,

First post over here. Normally I'm on the General Forum.

I've purchased two Intermountain locomotives, a F7A & a F7B, both with QSI sound decoders.  I intend to take the QSI decoder & speaker out of the B unit, and put it in another locomotive.

My question is what non-sound decoder can I install in the B unit, so that it closely matches the features of the QSI decoder in the A unit?

Check with Tony's Trains and Litchfield Station. Both have good service. I have bought from both.

Any modern (non MRC) decoder should work.  They can all be programmed to have speed curves to match the QSI exactly.  See the current thread (and others) on speed matching.
