I have peco turnouts, both insul and electro frog. Will these work with DCC out of the box or are there modifications that need to be made? I have heard different things about shorts. They are code 100.
Thanks,
Derf
Both of those switch types will work on DCC but both have issues with DCC that you may run into that they don't have with DC. Decembers MR has an article explaining those problems. I model in N and have those problems with them on DCC. I have to use nail polish to extend the insulation beyond the frog of all my Peco and Atlas insulfrog switches to prevent shorts when wheels of cars and loco's bridge both rails. It's a simple fix. Nail polish is harder than paint and will last longer between applications.
Do you also use the polish on the electrofrogs?

The electro frog switches have a different problem with DCC than insul frog types do. Nail polish won't work there. It requires making cuts through the rails with a dermmel or razor saw and then some wiring and soldering to the rails along with auxiliary switch contacts to power the frog. If you don't have the DEC issue of MR, get it.

I pray every day I break even, Cause I can really use the money!
I started with nothing and still have most of it left!
We have nearly 50 Peco code 100 Insulfrog turnouts on our large HO scale layout and use the North Coast Engineering ProCab radio throttles. We have NEVER had a shorting problem on any Peco turnout. I always use insulated rail joiners on both rails that diverge from the frog and then use separate feeder wires beyond the frog -- maybe that's the secret to avoiding shorts.
Hi
I have both Peco code 83 insulfrog and electrofrog turnouts on my layout using NEC ProCab and have no problems with either. I also have a live feed into the turnout and have insulated joiners on the two tracks out of the turnout. I then power the track the other side of the turnouts.
Hope this helps.

This is what I did with my Peco turnouts. Here're pictures.
Electrofrog or insulf frog, that's for me no question:
