Reset MTH HO ProtoSound3 Decoder engine address?
Posted by inhrmswy on Saturday, October 3, 2009 12:54 PM

I recently picked up a used MTH HO NYC Mohawk with protosound3, smoke etc...It will operate in regular DC, (The smoke is really good looking)  but using my MRC Prodigy Advance, nothing at all.

Ive tried all the tips and tricks MTH has on their website but no good.  Because the thing works in DC, I have to think the person before me messed with the addressing.  But nothing I have found so far says anything about a total factory reset.  I have an email in to MTH Customer support but its the weekend so I dont expect to hear anything from them.

Well I called MTH customer support today, and there is a way to reset the address to factory default 3.   set the engine on the main, enter up loco #55, to into program on main. program loco 55, CV 55 with a value of 55.  exit out and call up loco 3,   preform start up and it should work.  Worked on mine.  If you want to re enable long addressing at this point, go back into programing for loco 3, at CV29 enter a value of 38.

It is good to learn that you have cleared this up!  I hope you get lots of enjoyment from your engine.

hi inhrmswy,

I'm new to this hobby.  I need help.  My MTH locomotive runs fine with locomotive id 03.
I decided to change the id to a 4 digit id with the Digitrax Zephyr xtra controller.
Following the instruction from MTH manual I first assigned value 38 to CV29 to enable a
4 digit extended address.  The locomotive acknowledge the change.
I program the new 4 digit address by entering 0076 but the  Zephyr only display 76 with
no leading 00.  I pressed the write CV.   Now the locomotive is not responding to the new
address 76 or the old address 03.   I can not even start it up.  I tried your solution using CV55, when you program CV55 was your locomotive on?  I couldn't power up my locomotive after I reprogram it to address 76.

I wired the the Zephyr xtra in service mode and I tried using CV 55  in all modes
DIR, OPS, PAGE, PHYS and no luck.   Now I've a dead locomotive.  Please help anyone ...
