morning all ,ok ,how do you get them off, atlas rs3 and athearn rs3 any help would save me from breaking somthing ( you know I dont have this problem with my protos ). Im preping a clean room to install my first sound decoders (sountrax at-1000) and its not going well since I cant get my victom to undress.......Im still in shock with my supplies I got in the mail ,those speakers looked a lot bigger in the pictures.wow there small.........oh well any help on the shell would be great help...J.W.
got em off (man I got to get some of those magnifer glasses) the athearn had two small screws @ cab under truck (almost missed those while prying on shell) the atlas had little snaps frt & rear but could not see them till after removel ,,,oh did remove the couplers first off both types.......now to the install the atlas Im going to shave the front wieght for speaker (like Mr. dcc @ litchfield ) and the boad is a dirrect replacement + add led head lights..............the athearn does not have wieghts but has a nice little cavity (Im guessing for a 9 pin decoder) that fits the speaker im useing perfect but Ill have to do some fudgeing to put the atlas type board in there( was planning to do both atlas rs3s so thats why my supplies are for atlas not athearn )...... oh a ? on the athearn head lights there is 4 wires going to each one any one know why ??? (was thinking of going with leds but looks a little more challenging compared to the atlas) oh well haveing fun (so far) J.W.
The AThearn has 2 individual bulbs in each headlight, hence the 4 wires. They are also I believe 1.5 volt bulbs so resistors will have to be used if you bypass the stock circuit board.

If you intend to keep your eye sight and not give yourself a migraine every time you work on your trains then a lighted magnifying glass is a must. If you ever run across another locomotive and have problems removing the shell if you bought it new check out the exploded view in the instructions that come with it. My friend bought me a Bachmann Spectrum Dash 8 that he couldn't get the shell off of and broke several pieces of in trying. He felt like a real *** when I took the foam out of the box and pulled out the instructions.
thanks guys , Randy I know youre one of of the sharper knives in the drawer , so your info on the 1.5 bulbs is correct but (and remember Im a green or dull knife on this stuff)doesnt the at-1000 sountrax allow for 1.5 bulbs or am I misunderstanding the info ? .......and what is brighter the bulbs or the sunnywhite leds I got from litchfield I know I have to use resisters for the leds ? ... oh well almost got the atlas rs3 done , shaving the wieght (witha a belt sander ) took for ever ......and it is laundry/house cleanig day....but I got to get one of those lighted magnifyers ...J.W.
