Atlas N scale U25Bs with factory-installed decoders
Posted by trainman07011 on Friday, September 11, 2009 12:15 PM

I just purchased a pair of these engines new, #44775 & 44776.  The speeds that they run at are radically different, making it difficult to run lashed up.

What brand and model # decoders are in these?

What adjustments can I make to them using an NCE Power Cab system to smooth this out?

Please help,

DREW

Here's a link to Atlas N decoder applications:

U25B has a Lenz built decoder but expect no support from Lenz. Atlas didn't buy support with them and chooses to do their own support.  I generally use the LEO63XF manual for Atlas decoders.

As David pointed out, they do have a programmable speed table. I would suggest first resetting both decoders by writing 33 to CV8. Unfortunately, that won't reset the speed table so you will have to go through one at a time. Resetting will turn the speed tables off in CV29. The manual does have the default speed step settings. I've seen a few new engines come through with other than default settings.

Thank you gentlemen.  I think I'll just return these for decoder ready models that I can install adequate decoders in.
