I have installed several of these decoders in my Atlas RS 1's and 3's and from the get go I hear a constant buzzing noise whether the sound is off or on and thought it was normal. I recently installed a Tsunami and noticed it did not have the buzzing noise. Has anyone else noticed this buzzing noise and is there a recommended solution to fix it in the Soundtraxx DSD-AT100LC?
All the LC ones have that, they apparently were designed before "quiet" decoder technology came along (early non-sound decoders could buzz too) and Soundtraxx never upgraded it. The only thing you can do is there's one CV...I think CV8 but you'd have to check it out for sure...that you can adjust to change the "pitch" of the buzzing so it might be less noticeable. But you really can't eliminate it.
The buzzing you are hearing is because the decoder needs its pulse-width modulation set for the drivetrain. One of the higher CV's, around 116 or so if my memory serves (it has been four years, so please look in the decoder's manual) can be programmed in a fairly stiff range of inputs to find a setting that is the best for your engine. In fact, maybe 116 sticks in my mind because that was only one of the values that worked, and it isn't the CV at all....(shrug..)
I had little luck using it, and finally switched to a Tsunami.

You need to adjust CV9. Click and save the below link. Go to page 12 in the PDF.

Look around the SoundTraxx site for other documents that might prove useful to you and others. It can be a nice gesture to give back to the forum.

I found the below in a different forum.
Which is covered in the users guide. Default is 180 (65Hz, Tech Ref). They say a value between 175 and 185 for CV9 (HO) should quiet it down. Experiment.
If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
I haven't tried CV 9 yet, but after reading the pdf, it appears the motor is making this noise separate of the speaker. The buzz I am hearing is coming from the speaker. Or is this the same noise, just channeled through the speaker from the motor?
Not in my experience. This was the motor buzzing in concert with the pulses from the decoder. Speaker buzz is out of my depth....sorry.
