Athearn Genesis MP15AC
Posted by dadret on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 5:04 PM

I just got an Athearn Genesis HO MP15AC with DCC & sound and I would like to increase the volume of the bell, horn, and diesel rumble.  On the loco as received they are very low.  I think Athearn uses an MRC decoder. The owners manual that comes with the product is quite limited but it shows that the F21, F22, and F23 function keys change the volumes.  I use an MRC Prodigy Advance which supports all 28 functions but nothing happens when I use the three keys.  I know there is a way to increase the volume but I haven't quite figured it out yet and the documentation with both he Athearn loco and my MRC really don't address my problem.  Can anyone help?

David,

According to Athearn's web site, the MP15ACs come with a Soundtraxx Tsunami decoder.  I would definitely download one of their manuals or user guides.  They usually contain A LOT more information than some of the abbreviated manuals you get from the manufacturers.

If it turns out that you have the tsunami, you lucked out.  Athearn just recently switched to them from the MRC's  Major improvement.

Unfortunately I think the one I got still has the MRC decoder - it works OK but I'm very disappointed in the volume.  I changed CVs for the horn, bell, and diesel rumble to the max of the range but it didn't get any better.
