Hello, Im finally switching to DCC and need advice on which DCC system to choose. I'm new to DCC and on a fairly strick budget,so Id like to keep it cheap and simple. I've done some research and Im trying to decide between these three. Here's some info you may need to know first.
Shelf layout around the perimeter of two 13.5' x 13.5' rooms(past thru the dividing wall) = 13.5' x 27'
Simple two track main with a few passing/storage sidings.
I run F3 AB consists and med to large steam locos with sound(never more than 3 locos at a time)
The three systems under consideration.
MRC Prodigy Express (not sure if it has enough power at 1.6amps)
Digitrax Zephyr( have to buy handheld extra)
NCE starter set.
Any advice, comments, experiences will be greatly appreciated.

One thing to consider. If you belong to a model railroading group that runs a DCC system, buy whatever system they use. That way you will have some local experts to discuss your problems with and maybe come over to your house work through any system hassles you are having. Also, you will not have to learn to use 2 different systems, but they are all not that difficult to learn and use, so maybe this would not be an issue.

Just remember that the old threads are just that - old.
As far as DCC is concerned, allot can change in even a year, and not to many of those old threads are ever updated.

Yes, this should be considered. Of course, this might result in you wearing the same uncomfortable pair of shoes as everyone else.
I switched to DCC about 5 months ago, and like you asked for advice. Lots of great help led me to choose the Digitrax Super Chief and I couldn't be happier.

Mine is a larger three deck railroad, and I use NCE and have since 1999. However, I have the big time NCE and that is too much power (probably) for the railroad you are describing. But the "power house" , not sure of correct name, for NCE has gotten good reviews and can be used with the pro system if you should grow over the years to the point of needing a full system.

Correct name is PowerCab. Our club just bought one for a dedicated program track as well as a small display layout that is intended to go to different shows. At least 6 other members have the PowerCab and are all happy with it.

Yeah, well, you aren't the only one that might be senile. When I originally typed the "correct" name, I called it a procab. It wasn't til a second after I made the post that I got the oh poop moment and had to go back and do an edit.
