DCC Greeting Cards
Posted by mreagant on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 9:58 PM

O.K.  Now that I have your attention.  Has anyone ever tried to use the speaker, etc. from one of those seriously overpriced 'talking-singing' greeting cards?  This morning, my wife handed me a Mother's Day card she got last year and asked what to do with it.  I looked at the electronics inside (speaker, chip, battery) and said "I don't have a clue, but don't toss it yet.  I might be able to use it."

Have I completely lost it, or is any of that stuff useable?

That speaker is much too small and cheaply made to be usable in a locomotive.  It's probably not 8 Ohms, either, which is what most sound decoders require, and it has no baffle.  One of those would probably go "poof" as soon as you connected it to a decoder.

Umm, Mother's Day is coming up again? If you get any complaints, just explain that you've "completely lost it". Works for me.
