switching turnouts automatically??
Posted by mmr1229 on Monday, March 16, 2009 3:58 PM

was wondering if it is possible to switch a turnout automatically. for example getting a locomotive to make a switch to change the tunout position as it travels its route. ( so the locomotive can travel a desired route through turnouts)

If each turnout has an accessory decoder  the MRC system does the following: (from the manual)

Grouping of turnouts (or accessories) can be consisted to form a route. The

Prodigy Advance DCC system allows up to 31 routes and up to 8

accessories in each route.

The Prodigy Advance will handle most NMRA compatible accessory

decoders. This type of decoder can operate turnouts (switch tracks) or

toggle accessories, like building lights, on and off from your Cab.

If you want the locomotive to automatically activate a switch as it approaches you need detection.

If you just want to throw a series of switches with a single command, you can do that with a Digitrax DS64.

Because the DS64 can get it's commands through the track, it will work with any brand DCC system that can issue switch commands.

Other manufacturers probably have similar decoders.

Read the last entry in this forum before yours.  It is the answer to the question you just asked.
