Greetings,
I recently picked up a locomotive that came with the older Loksound 2.0 decoder in it. The motor functions operate fine but the sound is intermittently funky.
When I first fired up the locomotive and it was idle, the sound was very soft and I could hear a "static" popping coming from the speaker. Also, occasionally I would get a much more pronounced static sound if the locomotive were idle and emitting the steam popoff noise. Same issue with the bell function (F3).
I reset the decoder and adjusted the volume (CV63), just to see if that took care of any problems. The static popping sound at idle seems to have gone away. However, the bell still intermittently sounds like a pneumatic wrench going off rather than a bell. When this happens, it might last for 3-5 seconds then the bell sound kicks in. I've had no problems (yet) with the whistle.
Since the loud static sound only happens on certain sounds, it seems to me to would be an issue with the decoder rather than the speaker. Would you agree? I bought the locomotive from someone who said that it had never been run and had only sat in a display.
Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks for the help...
Tom
