I have just realized that latching the F2 function ( whistle) will not make it quill. How do I unlatch the F2 function? I have looked in the manual and saw no info on unlatching the F2 function.

Just press F2 again to unlatch.

Thanks.
Wait, what do you want to accomplish?
"Non-Latching" refers to F2's momentary-type control. IOW, when you press F2 it's on, and when you let it go, it's off. That's a non-latching function.
A latching function is like F1 for the bell (for most sound decoders). When you press F1, the bell turns on. When you let it go, it stays on. To turn off the bell, you must press and release F1 again to do so. This is a latching functon.
"Quilling" a whistle using F2 is another matter entirely. DT400's have a pressure sensor on the F2 button that can be activated by programming the DT400's OPSW to the correct number. It's not in the manual, so you'd have to ask Digitrax or the Yahoo! Digitrax list to get that number.
The pressure sensor on F2 means that the harder you press F2, the louder the whistle gets on the decoder (which also must be set up to be "quillable"). But it's still non-latching, so when you let go of F2, the function turns off.
So what exactly is the problem? Have you latched the F2 button and want to turn it off, or do you want the playable whistle? Or something? I'm confused...

There's another one of those things that the DT400 can do - you cnaamake F2 latch on at any time by pressing and holding F2 and the PWR button. http://www.digitrax.com/kb/index.php?a=496
Just hitting F2 again unlatches it and turns it off. Subsequent presses of F2 will be non-latching.
Now, just why one would want to latch F2 pretty much escapes me. F2 is the defacto standard for the whistle function in pretty much every DCC system I've seen, as well as with every sound decoder I've seen. I suppose if you don't have sound decoders and do have a regular decoder that doesn't allow function remapping so one of your lights is conencted to the F2 output you might want it to stay on after you released the F2 button.

Randy,That's exactly why I latch my F2 from time to time. I have a trainset called "The Comet" which has a small searchlight on the roof mounted straight up (the NH's way of extra grade crossing protection at night). The car lights are on F1, and I'm using old DH142's for the decoders so the searchlight is on F2. If I want to leave 'em on, I gotta latch them. BTW, hitting "PROG" also latches F2.
