SDH104K1A + FN04K1 in Kato HO AC4400
Posted by PaulWhitt20 on Friday, November 7, 2008 3:45 AM
Got a Digitrax sound decoder SDH104K1A and FN04K1 combo to put in a Kato AC4400 yesterday.

Installed it okay and the sound works but the rear LED only works in reverse and the front LED does not work at all. However it seems as though the light board (FN04K1) should plug into the end of the main board on about 6 pins. I don't have a separate plug in board.

Have you any experience of fitting this decoder, should there be a plug in board for the LED's, could this be missing?

Thanks in advance

Hi, Thanks for the response.

I tried it with the shell off and on, and the front LED does not light at all. I ordered the combo but haven't checked yet if that is what was actually delivered. There are six contacts at one end to plug the FN04K1 function board but no function board plugged in and no board in the packaging. It is not already soldered on.

Thanks

Paul

Hi David,

I bought it from a hobby shop in the UK, they got it from digitrax. £50 (GBP). I have spoken to the shop and they will return it to Digitrax for a replacement. I was wondering if anyone else had similar problems with the function board missing or if there was a magic CV that needed setting to make the LED's work in either direction and they have changed the PCB so you don't need a function board.

I am at work at present so can't check the packaging but will do when I get home.

Thanks

Paul

The combo package should have included the add-on function decoder, together with instructions that advise soldering the function decoder to the end of the basic one.  Without the function decoder, nothing will work except the sound effects.

Actually, when I bought a pair of SDH104K1B+FN04K1 Combo's for my SD38-2's, the function decoders were already mounted and soldered.  I would think the SDH104K1A+FN04K1 Combo's would come the same way.

I agree - my combos were already setup - motor board, sound and speaker.

Thanks for the replies. Do Digitrax do a SDH104K1A without the function decoder? Maybe I got sent one of these by mistake. Anyway I am returning it to where I bought it to get a replacement.

Thanks

Paul
