I recently installed a Digitrax SFX 0416 decoder in a dummy F7B. This came with the default steam/diesel sound set, and it seems to work as advertised with either sound package selected.
Last night, I downloaded the E8 sound project from the Digitrax web site, and loaded it into the decoder using my PR2. I've done this sort of thing successfully before, with the "traction" sound project in my Peter Witt trolley. When I tested it, though, I was greeted with silence. I reloaded the default project and it worked again, but multiple attempts to get the E8 to work failed.
Has anyone else tried the E8 sound project? Were there any tricks?
Hmmmm...as I'm typing this, I'm wondering if the problem is the CV that selects steam or diesel in the original package. That is delivered with the steam sounds selected, but I changed it to diesel before I did the download. My guess is, it's still set to look for the second sound package, which doesn't exist in the E8 project. I didn't think of that last night. Maybe that's the problem.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
When you download a new diesel sound you must change CV60 to 0 or you will get silence.

Rio Grande vs. Santa Fe.....the battle is over but the glory remains!
Thanks. I had a "D'oh!" moment when I was typing the post, and realized that I had probably figured it out myself. I'm at work now, but I'll check it when I get home. It certainly fits as an answer.
When I did the trolley project, I left the decoder set up for steam sounds until I actually did the download. Yeah, a trolley with chuff and a big steam whistle.
Well, that was indeed the problem. As soon as I set CV 60, the sounds came back. I tweaked the volume levels a bit and I was all set to go. Much more appropriate for F-units.
