Need help programing an Atlas Loco

 I am attempting to program an Atlas loco with a factory equiped decoder. I think I changed the address to 08 (The last 2 digits on the loco) Now I have no control over the loco. When I put it on the tracks it starts to run full throttle. the speed control knobs have no control, neither does the emergency stop key. The only thing I can do to stop the runaway loco is to turn off the power supply. When I attempt to turn off the track, all it does is make a beeping sound.

 Sounds to me like more than the address got changed. Check the locos manual for the reset code. Place the loco on a program track and read CV1 to confirm the address. If the address is indeed 08 and you can't control it with that address then a reset is in order. I don't know what brand of decoder Atlas uses in their locos. Each brand has it's own reset CV. I use Digitrax decoders most of the time so if I was to do a reset on one of them I would set CV8 to 08 and that return the decoder to it's factory defaults including it's factory default address of 03.

 You lost me on that one Jeffrey, I have no idea what you are talking about. I think I know how to get the address but how do you get the CV?

  I called OKC where they are a Digitrax dealer and he said to turn the left throttle to say 008 and the right throttle to say 008 (008=008) as seen on the throttle, I did that and pressed the enter and it said good. I put it on the main tracks and it still runs on address 03.

  I do not kow what I did but the loco now responds to my throttle commands. Ain't DCC fun??!! I will figure it out sooner or later.

What they had you do is try to do the reset Jeffrey mentioned. CV number ont he left dial, value on the right. IF the decoder they used supports reset, it SHOULD be back to running on Address 3 and no longer taking off at jet speed. If it's running normally but on address 3, what you need to do id go into program mode liek you did before, as you turn the left knob the display will say AD2= and then AD4=?. Set it to AD2, and then turnt he right knob til it says 008, the address you want. Then press enter and it should come back with good again. Now it should run on address 8 instead of 3.

 If it still takes off, it either doesn;t have a reset option, or the way to access it is not CV8=8 liek it is in some other decoders. If it does not have a reset, you can probably 'fix' whatever might have gotten messed up by doign the following:

Go into program mode again, and dial up 002 on the left, set the right to 000. Press enter

Dial up 003 on the left, set it to 000 on the right. Enter

Dial up 004 on the left, set it to 000. Enter

Dial up 005, set to 000

Dial up 006, set to 000

Dial up 029, set it to 006.

At this point the loco should be operable on address 03 - and run the way it's supposed to. Now you can do what I mentioned above to set the address to 08.
