NCE Functions
Posted by iomtt on Thursday, October 9, 2008 6:41 PM

Hi  All,

I just took  delivery  of an  Athearn  'big boy'  for  my  N scale  layout  and am using  an  NCE    procab  for  it,  in the  manual  it says  there are   28  functions on  the  loco...... but on my  Procab  i  can only  get  to   function 12  is it  possible to access  the  remaining  functions  up to   number F28  with  the  procab if  so  how please.

 Many thanks .

The latest Power cab can do to F28. The earlier Power cab and Pro cab will only go to F12. I dont ever go more than F9 to wake up some sound decoders and rarely use past F4 sounds. With experiance you will find that the most used functions are F0 to F4 and the rest will be never used.

iomtt,

I have an original Power Cab with 12 functions. When used with the Smart Booster, you get F0-F28 but you have to program the OPTION key to "122". The newer Pro Cab's should already have the upgrade chip in them. (You should consult your Pro Cab manual to determine if you'll need to program the OPTION key.)

Pressing the OPTION key once will allow you to access F10-F19. (Example: Press 7 to get F17.) Pressing the OPTION key again will give you access to F20-F28. Pressing OPTION a 3rd time will toggle you back to F10-F19. Press PROG/ESC to get back to F0-F12.

Hope that helps...

Tom

It is explained very well in the manual. I believe in self-help...

Not if his ProCab is an older version that does not support above F12.

Thanks guys,

I  need  the latest  Eprom  chip  i  ordered this morning .......  is  it  easy  to  fit  as it  seems in  the  manual  like  fitting  a plug in decoder  as long  as the  pins  are all  aligned  in  the  socket correctly,  and  then  follow the  manual online  on  the NCE  site with mine  being three  years old ( i  bought  it  and  never  had  the  time to  use  it  you  see so  this  is  why  i'm missing  the extra  functions)
