Programming NCE Switch It
Posted by harrym on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 11:17 AM

I am trying to programme an NCE Switch it. The default address of 1 works fine. I followed the instructions [sketchy] in the folder but cannot get an address of 3 on the decoder. I am using  it with a Tortoise switch machine. The instructions lead one to believe that the wires to the Tortoise should be disconnected during progamming. Anyway I"ve tried several combos but none work. I'm using a MRC Prodigy Wirelerse system. Any advice? harrym

The programming procedure is as follows, and is explained in the NCE SwitchIt documentation.  The Tortoise must be connected so you can know that the address assignment is correct.

1.  Turn everything off.

2.  Connect a short jumper wire from the common connection to PA or PB, depending on which turnout you want to assign an address to.

3.  Use your DCC system to control the accessory (switch) number you wish the decoder to use as its address for the SWA or SWB output.  This means to assign a number to the turnout and operate it in both directions. (Example:  Switch A address 9, and then throw the switch with the controller.)  Each must be programmed separately.

4.  Remove the jumper wire.

Hopefully you are trying to program on the main, and not on the programming track.

Concerning the instructions, the first time I tried to program one of these I got absolutely nowhere.  I thought that the instructions were jibberish.  You say sketchy, which is probably more polite.  Anyway, then I found out that the instruction had been revised.  The new instructions are much easier to follow.  There is a note on the new instruction sheet that says it was last revised 3/15/2007.  From what you are describing, it sounds like you might have a Switch It with the older instruction.  The following link is to the latest instruction on the NCEDCC website.  Take a look there and let us know how you make out.

Thanks for the reply. I think I must have a duff Switch it because I followed all the instructions several time and got no results, SOO, I went to my only other Switch it which is set to the default address and followed the instructions to program it and it worked. It is now set to address 3 . I'll leave the second machine at 1  and all is well. Thanks for your input
