New Tsunami Diesel Decoders
Posted by CNRFan on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 12:22 PM

I would like to purchase a few of the new Tsunami Diesel sound decoders but it is my understanding that they are (or are going to be for Second and Third generation diesels.

Where can I find a list  of what is First, Second and Third generation loco's?

Go join the Yahoo SoundTraxx group. They are discussing the diesel decoders. Bruce who has a online DCC shop is there also. I use the Micro-Tsunami steam decoders.

So far, only EMD 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Generation and two Alco sound decoders have been released, with more to follow.  Litchfield Station's web site indicates which models of diesel locomotives had the different types of engines.

I have ordered one of the Alco decoders and have been told that it will be at least 2 weeks before they are available.  Considering past estimates of availability, that probably means to wait a month or more.

I just rec'd my 567 EMD First generation Diesel Tsunami from Litchfield Station. I am happy with the sound and will install in a Stewart F-3 B unit. My ALCO 244 and 251 are still back ordered from Soundtraxx. Don't over look LokSound and the new QSI. These have the added advantage of being programable.

First generation would include "E" units, "F" Units, BL's, GP 7 to GP 18, would others include the GP 20? SD 7 to SD 18. NW, and SW units up to SW 1200. Probably others.

I was told today (August 8th) by Litchfield Station that an Atlas-format drop-in Tsunami diesel decoder will be available in about one month which should fit most Athearn Genesis, Atlas, and Kato locomotives.  Finding a place for the speaker will still be a challenge in some of the older ones, though.
