Digitrax Decoder helps please
Posted by iomtt on Saturday, July 5, 2008 10:04 PM

Hi All,

I have  an  open  frame  plymouth shunter i want  to add to my  intermodal layout in N scale, with it  i  want  to  have  the headlight on regardless  of being in forwards or reverse, and a flashing  led  in the  roof   at  the same time and  have  the abilty to  turn  ether  off independantly of  each  other.

The  decoder  i am  thinking  of  using is  a  Digitrax DZ143 four  function would  this  meet  my  requirments,  if  so could  anyone  explain to me  how  to wire it  up or  better still   send  in a wring  diagram  for  it.

Many  thanks  in advance.

Any 4-function decoder will do the job and all decoders intended for hard wiring I've seen come with a wiring diagram. Since you're talking about N-scale, the important thing you need to be concerned with is whether the motor is isolated from the frame or if it can be.

Many thanks for the advice, i installed the decoder and miniatronics led's this afternoon (digitrax Dz143) and have fitted it so the headlight and tailight are on in both directions with a flashing roof light on the third function F1 changing the CV 51 to 6, the flashing LED works when going forward but in reverse goes out, is  there another different  CV  setting/value  on CV  51 i should  be  using for  this decoder for  the  roof  light  to  flash  in both  directions.
