How do I get full functions of Soundtraxx DSX in a consist?
Posted by Fawlty Logic on Thursday, June 12, 2008 11:48 AM

I have installed a Soundtraxx DSX in a car and want to have it provided sound in a consist. This can't be done simply with the Zephyr and its universal consisting MU'ing operation because while the throttling up can be heard, the bell and whistle can't be played unless I enter the address of the DSX to play them and then the throttle control of the top loco is gone until I reenter its address.

I tried setting CV19 to 254 or 255 on the DSX to achieve consist control of all function sound keys.  They work for the second decoder in the consist now, but there is no throttle up function when I MU it with the Zephyr.

I can achieve both throttle up and other sounds if I set the DSX and the lead loco to the same address, but I don't want to have to keep changing the DSX address like that for every consist I enter it into.

I think the MUing approach with the Zephyr is what is screwing me up.  I think I should just enter CVs for both the DSX and the lead loco "normally", but what do I enter?

How would I enter the CVS for a consist with the DSX as address 01 and the lead loco as address 1234 for example?

What settings of CV 19 and CV 21 would I use on one or both?

Thanks

Just a tough, use the DSX car as the lead loco in the consist. Where you physically place the car in the consist is irrelevant with universal consisting.

Let me know if it works, I am curious.

It is covered in detail in this document, with examples.
