Anyone have experience with RAM Track sound installation?
Posted by n1vets333 on Thursday, June 12, 2008 7:18 AM

I got a hold of a ram track steam Engine sound, ho gauge 1 inch speaker RAM 51 DEVICE. It doesnt look to be a decoder type of sound system. I could really use a diagram or a link to a help page. What are your thoughts on this system? Is it of good quality sound? Is it easy to install? I was also wondering if it could be installed in an o gauge engine instead, if I use a larger speaker of course? Another thing I was wondering was would this work on a dcc engine? Any help that anyone could offer would really be great. Thank you.

If this was given to you, good. but don't go out and buy this. It is an analogue device, white noise generator limited to a hiss and chuff, that is years behind what is now availlable. White noise is white noise. it was state of the art many, many, many years ago. I think Noah had one on the Ark.

You might as well get a DCC sound decoder and use it in analogue conversion mode. You can program decoders with your computer and a PR2/PR3 and DecoderPro so you do not need a DCC command station.  Certain decoders even have automatic settings for the sounds, they can be activated by varying the throttle (Soundtraxx Tsunami).   Digitrax Sound only SFX decoders (they use WAV files)  are availlable for the price these RAM Track gizmos are sold for

Thank you for the heads up. You werent kidding, I plugged in a 9 volt battery and let the sensor read the magnet and it sounded like the television when the cable wire gets pulled out. What junk. Its hard to believe that this was even on the market at one time. Thanks again.
