Athearn Genesis F-7s Lighting...
Posted by KB0QQW on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 5:26 PM

Hi All,

I have a pair of Athearn Genesis F-7 A units & a B unit (UP Freight version, no sound for now) that I installed NCE Decoders in & now want to replace the lighting in the A units with something a little better.

What suggestions/recommendations does the group have for replacement lights for both the mars light as well as the headlight to make these engines look their best?  The layout has lots of tunnels & canyons so the headlight/mars light will get lots of use & also be the subject of many photo run-by opportunities.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

For the headlight, I'd go with an LED because it's brighter, directional, lasts long, and runs cool.  Depending on which NCE decoder you use, you may need to solder in a resistor in order to NOT burnout the LED.

For the Mars light, incandescents are better because they dim down to almost nothing; something an LED doesn't do well at.

Hope that helps...

Tom
