Changing DCCsystem, switches throws wrong way
Posted by kjellgerik on Monday, May 19, 2008 6:41 AM

I have been using CVP/EasyDCC for several years but decided to buy a new ESU ECoS instead. Setting up ECoS for my switches I realised that the new command-station throw the switches the other way around. Then the screen pictogram showing the switch in "Normal/Straight" position it was actually in "reverse" position and viceverse.

Any one who know if this is a general problem then you change DCCsystem? Isn't this standarized by NMRA?

Do I have to resolder all my switchconnections or are there a smarter way to solve this?

No, this aspect of DCC is not standardized.  The only thing the NMRA drew up Standards and Recommended Practices for was the command signal on the track and the basic decoder CVs.  The DCC manufacturers are on their own for everything else.

If the EcoS does't have a way to reverse the turnout positions through a CV, you'll have to break out your soldering iron.

Kjell,

Along with posting here, I would also fire an e-mail off to ESU for your answer.  Would you also consider writing a first impression review of the ECoS DCC system (what you like/don't like) when you have some time?

Could it be as simple as swapping the buss wires? Worth a shot.

Pete,

I tried that, but it didn't make any difference.
