Does anyone have any experience/comments on using the Weller WLC100 soldering staton for installing decoders? I ask because while I have read many positive comments about it, I noticed that it is not grounded and wondered if that really mattered?
Until a couple years ago, I had never used a grounded iron and never had any problems (I was always careful to discharge myself before soldering though). And that was over 45 years or so from Allied-Radio and Heath kit days, US Navy days and my many hobbies over that period using ICs and transistors. I only went to a grounded iron a few years ago because everyone said you must have one.
BTW, I realize this is only a $55 station and I could spend hundreds on another one, but I'm retired and money no longer grows on trees, I'm afraid.

Avail your fears, Ken. Weller is the factory standard as far as soldering stations go. They make a very good product.

I have been using my WLC100 for four years with no issues. I solder all kinds of ICs and install decoders.
I use the ST7 conical tip for fine PC board work.

After reading them, from fellow MRRs, I ordered one late last night from Amazon (saved $25 after shipping over what some of the the electronics stores charge just for the station w/o shipping!). I'm looking forward to getting away from the always-on-at-max-temp irons.
