DCC 8 wire plug vs DCC 9 wire plug

I am ready to add DCC to a Mantua Classic 2-6-6-2 logger with tender. The unit takes a 9 plug pin decoder. All of the other decoders I have used have been the 8 pin type, what is the difference betweeen a 8 wire and a 9 wire plug?
