Kevin, Rotor, and those that tried to help.
Thanks very much. I believe I may have my Atlas motors protected. I use Horne's center tap transformer at 30V. It was a little weak at 15V but at 30V there is a nice click when two of the turnout motors are thrown. I may put a resister in series with the output to drop the voltage a tad. You can probably list me with the people that dont know which end is up, at least with capacitors. Rotor, are you modeling Great northern? I liked the goat so I'm doing a very freelance edition.

Lee,
I'm glad to hear you solved your problem! That's what the forum is all about. Solving problems and learning as we go. Capacitors threw me at first too. Maybe we get too used to the + terminal being identified and the capacitor seems backwards in it's markings. Anyway I think it is just the Axial or Electrolytic Caps that are polarity specific...

Glad you got the CD unit working.
I have a very confused, generic freelanced layout.
Since I was a little kid, I always liked seeing Rocky come by when stopped at grade crossings. So that's the major portion of my motive power, and rolling stock.
I also tend to gravitate toward stuff you might have seen around the greater StL area, (since I was born and raised there), CB&Q, MoPac, C&A, etc.
The Kid, however, tends to lean towards Chessie (he liked the kitten) and southern railroads, (SOU, CofG, NS).

Jake: How often does the train go by? Elwood: So often you won't even notice ...

Cats, Goats, hey it's all about hav'ing fun. I like the Rocky mountains, (I been there quite a few times). My layout trys to represent a small rail town and some mountains through which the Great Northern might have past through.
I ran across a site (http:www.iguanalabs.com) that I think may help me brush up on the basics also. They are closing but I got some information I needed from the tutorials and downloaded several pages.
