Thanmk you for the great response! I was able to find this part by both Detail Associates and Details West. I could not find Detail Associates' web site, but I did find the part on Walther's web site. I ordered it and I also ordered one of the Details West detail kits.
Your post was a great help! Thank you!

I do believe they are used for lifting. I know that Details West includes it in thier f unit kit but I do not know if they sell it seperate. You might want to try detyail associates as well. They actually do have them in the rear, look on the top of the diaphram I believe that those two holes serve the same purpose. hope it helps.

In researching Amtrak E-unit and F-unit prototypes, I've noticed that the vast majority have two large, pronounced bosses protruding from the front of the locomotive. (Here's an example:
http://lib2.clark.cc.oh.us/amtrak/amtF/amt103.jpg
) They appear to be for lifting the locomotive, but I've not found evidence of the same features on the rear of any of these locomotives.
What is the function of this feature? Does anyone make this detail part that I can add to my HO scale models, or must they be scratchbuilt? Is there an article in a Model Railroader back issue that may give more info?
