An American  friend, whom I hope to accompany on a Big Boy-related road trip this summer, sends me regular updates.

The latest one, late last month, had the locomotive undergoing hydrostatic tests, and plans to put the boiler back on its running gear, soon, if it's not already been done.

I didn't mean to be rude but John Abatacola (TGS Multimedia - youtube) has been talking for at least a month or two about how he wasn't going to Golden Spike Days because it would be too crowded to get good pics.

Sadly to many railfans today miss a once in a life time photo or video bacause "it will be to crowded".  Really??

Here's what I did back in '91 during the NRHS convention in Huntington,W.Va when 765 and 1225 doubledheaded out of Huntington, a sure once in your backyard*  life time photo.

Yes,there was a mob  at the departure point but,a short three minute walk East of the Station found a isolated spot that offered a spectcular photo of 765 and 1225 accelerating out of the station.

Although I lost those photos plus  over 3,000 other photos and slides in the great  2007 Bucyrus,Oh flood the sound, smell and viberation of those engines passing still remains to this day.

I wish I could attend and video 4014's maiden run.Speaking of once in a life time events.

*Actually My wife wanted to visit her family in Kentucky so,with her blessing I took the opportuntiy to attend the doubleheaded steam event and the NRHS train show. A wonderful day was had..

I sure miss Yogi Berra Smile

On why he no longer went to Rigazzi's, a St. Louis restaurant:

"Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded."

Well I did my google a couple days ago, apparently just before this story posted.

Yes, the schedule was just posted two days ago.  On the UP:Steam Schedule page, you can sign up for email alerts when new info is posted.  I, too, have been waiting, and was wondering if I had not signed up correctly.

I expect that the schedule for the steam trips will be expanded quite a bit after this shakedown trip.

I googled to find out information on the restoration of Big Boy 4014. I got very few hits. I found one article that said the restoration was expected to be completed in time for the 150th anniversary of the Golden Spike ceremony but the article is from August of 2017. Nothing since. Does anybody have anything more current and is the restoration still expected to be completed by May of 2019?
