Shell Tank Car Photo
Posted by paulsell on Tuesday, January 05, 2010 11:49 PM
I want to see a prototype photo, preferably color, of a single dome Shell tank car from the early '50s. The paint scheme I am interested in is the yellow tank with the large red SHELL lettering across the middle. Of particular interest is the color of the handrails, ladders, and the platforms on each side of the dome. Were they black or yellow? Thanks for your help, Paul Mc

As I recall all hardware handrails, platforms and ladders were black, I have several models done in the 1920's scheme, only difference is the use of a light orange (custom blend) as the primary color.  Now i've got to determine what perecise shade of mauve is required for a Modavi Brothers 6 dome wine tanker!

I know this may not answer your questions, but here is an early Shell tank car: http://www.steamfreightcars.com/gallery/tank/rpx161main.html

Thanks for all of your help. Micro Trains and Proto 2000 both have offered models in this scheme, and on these models the ladders, grabs, handrails, and platforms are all black. The links "upjake" provided were helpful, as well as comments by "West Coast S." Thanks again, Paul Mc
