I would like to build a model railroad of the Rock Island's east-west line through Oklahoma between Oklahoma city and El Reno in the 50's. Could anyone tell me what trains ran on this line and in what order ( time of day ) Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do know this, Rock Island train passenger train 47/48 ran on the line. I do belive the line went to Memphis. Your best attempt is to check with the Rock Island Historical and Technical Society.

Alex--

The Rock Island's May 1951 public timetable shows 3 passenger trains in each direction betwen El Reno and Oklahoma City: Nos 51/52 (The Choctaw); Nos 111/112 (The Cherokee); and Nos 511/512 (The Oklahoma Rocket). The running times between the 2 stations were from 35 to 45 minutes. Times at El Reno were:

No 511 12:35 p.m. (Arrival)
No 111 10:25 a.m. (Arrival)
No 51 10:40 p.m. (Arrival)
No 512 3:30 p.m. (Departure)
No 112 4:10 p.m. (Departure)
No 52 6:15 a.m. (Departure)

Passenger service on this and other Rock Island lines changed quite a bit during the 1950s, so if you're interested in a later date, you'll want to consult later timetables.

The Rock Island Technical Society has great information on its website
