Besides the Green & Gold paint scheme, did MEC F-units also have the same Maroon & Gold as the Boston & Maine F-units??

Yes, and in fact the F3 units were delivered to the Maine Central in maroon and gold. I think they were repainted in green and gold in the early 60's, not long after E. Spencer Miller took control of the Maine Central. The first MEC F3's were built 12/1947..two A-B sets numbered 671 and 672. Another six A units were built about a year later, numbers 681-686, and I think these were the phase IV models. If you model in HO, Life-like made the AB sets in both color schemes in its Proto 1000 line. Athearn now offers the same in its genesis line, and Stewart makes the AB set and the phase IV's in green and gold. Give ebay a try, you'll find them all there. Happy modeling [8D]!
