historical Photo's
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, July 21, 2006 11:48 PM
I have found that historical photo's are a great source of information for period modeling. I have a large collection of photo's of Pensacola Florida dateing from 1866 to 1945. If you are into period architecture for your model, look for sources in your area, or I can send you some of mine. I am presently modeling the Dairy Bar, which was razed about 20 years ago. When the model is finished, I will send pictures of it and the prototype that I worked from, for compairason.

Hi Kenneth

Can you point me to the websites you go to for your photos? There are many sites that are dedicated to and have photos of particular railroads, but I want photos of America 1950's. I am looking for photos of streets, sidewalks, gas stations, shops, restaurants, apartments, diners, markets, billboards, buildings, etc, etc. I'm looking for cityscapes and details scenes I can build.

Thanks in advance!

Barry

I suggest you check out the famous Cushman photo archives maintained online by Indiana University.  This is a huge collection of color slides from the 1930s to around 1970 or so.  This guy shot the ordinary stuff and I think you'll find it interesting.  It takes some looking around to find stuff

Another source of course is old Life and Look magazines from the era.
