Hi all,
Are there any major external differences between a GP 9u and a GP18 ?
I want to get hold of a CN GP9u but can only find a Proto 2K GP18. Would the Proto 2k model pass for a GP9u or could it be made more accurate ?
All the best,
Kristian. [:)]

I think you'd be best off to begin with any Proto GP7/9/18 mechanism and add the GP9RM shell from Canadian Model Locomotive Works. Their contact information is available through Kaslo Shops at www.kasloshops.com. This shell is a Kaslo Shops product sold through CMLW.
Be aware that he's away often for work, so you may not get an immediate answer to your email, but he
will
reply.
Otherwise, the Proto GP18 has the correct size fans, and would probably work for this conversion, although it'd be a lot more work than using the CMLW shell.

There is one major difference easily corrected because I backdated a GP18 into a PRR GP9b. The screens for the radiator air inlets are different. The good news is Details West (as I recall) makes the correct ones and they pop right out and installation is a breeze Why did I use the GP18? All PRR GP9b's had the 48" fans. some of the earlier ones of the 258 unit fleet had the smaller 36" fans. at the time I built it that was the only option.

Hi all,
Thanks for the info. Given the choice, would an Atlas GP7 or a Proto be best to fit the Kaslo shell to ?
All the best,
Kristian.

I
think
it's intended for the Proto drive.
