What is the purpose for Santa Fe purchasing their Later model GE's with the gull Wing roof, or more to the point why does the roof line need to be different?

Santa Fe served coal loaders that required the special notched cab roofs for clearance. Data from The Santa Fe Diesel Volume 2 by Dr. Cinthia Priest p 176 for the C40-8CW. On p181 is a note that the C44-9W cabs were notched to clear the coal loaders at the Springerville dumper.
