CNW 50-50 livery
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 11:14 AM
I have pics of CNW diesels in an old yellow/green livery which is refered to as 50-50 livery and said to be inspiered by the Milwaukee. The yellow is about where the Milwaukee horrible red/orange would be and the green where the black would be.
Several questions...
When did these appear?
Were they ex milwaukee locos witha cover-up paint job?
Were ther many?
How long did the livery last / when did it go?
Is there a listing of what locos had this livery somewhere?

Thanks very much for all help...

I'd like to have at least one loco in this variant livery.

I've never heard the term "50-50" applied to CNW paint schemes. When you say 'old' do you mean old like 1980's, or old like 1940's??

The original paint scheme for road engines would be a green cab, with the top of the body being dark green and the sides below that stagecoach yellow, with a "V" of green and yellow safety stripes in front:

About 1960 it was simplified with the V stripes removed, just green on top and yellow below that, with the cab being all green.

Some of the Ex-N&W C-628's had the yellow continue over the sides of the cab.

(During the 1980's, some engines were repainted into "zito yellow" which was a much paler yellow.)

Sorry... should have specified date(s)... roughly late 70s early 80s. locos I can recall were SD40 or SD45 and GP 7 (?) SD7/9. The paint job is very similar to Milwaukee except for the colours. I will try to find a link.

Thanks

Well the two paintschemes would be fairly similar (except for color) during that time, basically CNW was green on the top maybe 1/3rd, yellow below; MILW was top half black, bottom orange. I don't know that CNW had any ex-Milwaukee engines in that time though. The Milwaukee was taken over by the Soo Line in about 1982, Soo did some tacky paintjobs where they painted over the Milwaukee lettering with black paint which pretty quickly faded out showing the lettering underneath.
