Any good books on Weathering?

Hi folks,
I am new to the world of painting and weathering of HO locomotives or any other models for that matter. I was wondering if any one out in the forum world could recommend any books on the subject of "Weathering" techniques. I am creating a fleet of about 39 mid 60's to modern day era locomotives, no steam just diesel. I purchased last fall a nice little Badger airbrush which I will try out when the rain stops coming down (late spring, California). Have purchased many locomotives off ebay with road names that will be stripped off and repainted with new decals and weathering, if I can learn how before I ruin anything. Allot of practice I am sure.
Thanks,
Brad

Hi Brad,
I am not sure how you'll find this in the US, but the ultimate weathering book here in the UK is "The Art of Weathering" by Martyn Welch, published by Wild Swan. It's ISBN No is 1 874103 119. It retails in the UK for c.£13, so say $20 over there. Be warned though, this book will change your life. You'll find yourself studying dirty trucks, manhole covers in the street and telegraph poles!
Cheers,
Adrian

Hi, wp...
John Pryke has written a few articles for MR, among them an article on weathering rolling stock. Here's a link to download pdf files of this article:

Martyn Welch's book that Adrian mentions is "the bible" of weathering as far as I'm concerned. You might have to hunt around on the internet to find it but it should be available, I'm in the US and was able to order it online I think thru Amazon.

A good book would be 'Basic Painting and Weathering for Model Railroaders' from Kalmbach books. It's excellent in showing how to use chalks, paints, and other materials in different ways to weather cars, engines, and structures.
