There's no real standard per se. The PRR used 155LB Rail on Horseshoe Curve way back in the 1920's, which is heavier rail than what's in common use. <br /> <br />Some stuff laid even in the early years of this century was as light as 55lb. It all depended on the cost and expected needs of the line.
