SD60M
Posted by norfolk_southern_6591 on Saturday, February 4, 2006 9:54 AM
After yrs of dreaming i am finally starting my first real layout "N" scale, loosely based on Norfolk Southern 1999 in my east central Missouri location. As I buy items , there are times I find things that dont fit in or I cant get info on. the SD60M is one. Can any one tell me what the "M" Stands for? Also I see alot differnt types of motive power, but i never see and C-30's Is there any certain rules NS uses to place loco's in service at 1 region only? If anyone has an answer pls email me at norfolk_southern_6591@yahoo.com

The SD60M is unique because it has a "wide body" cab on an Sd 60 chassis. The untis built from 1989-91 have 3 piece windshields. Units built from 1991-93 have 2 piece windshields. They are rated at 3800 hp, and run with a 16-710G prime mover. Wieght is 395000 lbs. 461 units were manufactured.

The "M" seems to be EMD nomenclature for "wide body" cab.
