What is the prototype info on the Ambroid NYC container car (1 of 5000); such as dates build, quanity, typical cargo, specialzed loading/unloading facilities, etc.?

The Fallen Flag site that Jeff gave you is a good one. There's a couple of volumes by Morning Sun Books called "NYC Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment" that might be of help. Here's the link:

The books are somewhat pricey but if you can get your hands on a copy and peruse through them, it's a storehouse of information and pictures. VERY nice references!

Thankfully, I have an LHS where one side is completely devoted to reference books and magazines like these. It's come in handy quite a number of times. At this point, I can't afford nor justify buying the books. But I spend enough money at that particular LHS that I can justify looking through them for information and ideas.

Maybe someday I'll pick up the one on facilities and structures. $60 is still steep.
