Small Intermodal Yards
Posted by WHartman on Monday, January 2, 2006 12:46 PM
I am looking for photos or site plans of small intermodal container yards. Trying top determine dimensions and distances between stacks of containers, aisle ways and track locations. Anybody have info? Thanks in advance.

whartman you might want to get the kalmbach book on modelling intermodal operations. this book has a history of intermodal and trailer train plus some intermodal yard plans in both ho and n scale plus list intermodal equiptment manufacterers in both scales.

hope this helps

WHartman,
You may also want to join Yahoo's model intermodal group:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/modelintermodal/
And, if you know the locations of the yards, you should be able to get satellite
imagery from MicroSoft's or one of the other imagery sites, such as FIU's TerraFly:

I know Willow Springs is a small yard for intermodal but its just for trailers all containers go to Corwith. IC&E has an intermodal yard in Davenport Iowa still I think. two or three tracks short nothing fancy be a perfect model.

Yes we are on time but this is yesterdays train

This is a good book although it is getting a little dated (copyright 1999) so the list of models available isn't going to be accurate but the rest of the information is good.
