HELP!!
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, November 12, 2005 9:01 PM
H everyone, I am sorry to ask something that may be too simple for me to know. How can I get the Cab numbers off of a model, so as to re-number it properly, or according to what I need for my layout, and engine roster??

THanks for your help in advance...

Kim

i'm not an expert but you may be able to carefully scratch off the number(s) with a credit card otherwise you may have to paint over the old #'s and apply new ones -i've never done this but read about it somewhere- if you try the credit card be careful not to disturb the paint too much.

a couple of possibilities would be to soak the cab numbers w/ Champ decal setting solution. It's agresive enough to attack most paints if put on heavily enough and left on long enough. The second possibility would be to try 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper wet and poli***he numbers down until they disappear. If done carefully this should remove the numbers w/o leaving an obvious "sanded" spot. Work over the whole cab side for uniformity.

I use floquil thinner, but I hear that pine-sol is better for that if you want a smooth surface. If it really doesn't want to budge, time to bring in acetone. BE CAREFUL, this will dissolve palstic if left for too long!
