I don't know anything. What engine is this?

I can see distant tracks from my office window… generally running BNSF, sometimes UP. Yesterday I saw a pair of bright, bright yellow engines with bright red nose and rear. (Not UP yellow, but like a canary yellow). Too far away to read anything. From a distance, they looked absolutely sparkling (brand new or straight from the wash rack). I know it’s not much to go on, but they were so different and so striking. Any ideas what I was seeing?

Here are my guesses:
Something going to or coming from the AAR Test Facility
Colorado & Wyoming (Does anyone know its paint scheme(s)?)
Rail and Rock, Inc. (Does anyone know its paint scheme(s) or if it comes into Pueblo?)
If they were in a BNSF or UP train, they could be going from a used locomotive dealer or rebuilder to a shortline.

Hey, some good thinking, Eric... you must have researched the area. I should have mentioned they were pulling a coal train, so don' t think it was AAR related. Not sure about Colo and Wyoming. That's the local steel mill line I think, and could be them with a new color scheme... (I've never seen these colors before). Rock & Rail is black and red. I thought they might be UP Heritage engines, but I don't think any of them are bright yellow.

These are former UP units, however, their paint does look a bit brighter than most UP locomotives. They have red ends, with white stripes.

Perhaps this is Rock & Rail's new paint scheme that you saw?

Certainly does look like the description. I noticed that is a former SP or SSW unit. I suspect that it is probably one of the former SP 7240-7247 or SSW 7248-7273 series that UP returned to their lessor not too long after devouring Southern Pacific.

Mario, That's it. Didn't know Rock and Rail had a new paint scheme. I had just been looking at some of their black ones out near Parkdale, CO. I thought the Yellow ones I saw looked freshly painted. Wish I had gotten a closer look. Those are sharp. [8D]
