Interesting load seen today
Posted by ndbprr on Monday, October 10, 2005 3:42 PM
Saw two TTX 89' flats with two very interesting loads headed north on the IC in Homewood, IL today. One had twelve diesel draft gear structural assemblies with collision posts already attached and stacked up four high alternating ends. the posts had to be 8-10' high on each one. Each one was at least 20' long. The second car had a diesel frame upside down that filled the car. IT had the end plates the coupler sticks through already attached. The funny thing to me was that it was lashed down like it might shift somewhere. With the weight I wouldn't think that would be possible

ndprr if you go onto www.rr-fallenflags.org and look at the TTX page there is also EMD chassis on flats. As far as it being lashed down the AAR has recommeded practices for each type of open car and what is required to secure loads on open cars.
To bad you didnt have a camera and posted pics of these interesting loads.

It is amazing what an emergency brake application can do to launch a load off its flat car. It is bad enough that we have people doing themselves in at crossings without having loads getting launched off of the passing trains, or into adjoining cars showering the surrounding landscape with debris.
