I was wondering if anyone had any information about the Union Pacific tool cars that are used with the 3985 & 844 excursion trains. I am planning on modeling one in HO scale and would like any specs or supplies that could be used to create one.

I have pictures of the car that I took last time the 3985 was in NLR. The thing that I really would like to know is what kind of box car it is. Length, manufatcurer, model, etc.
so that I kind find an undecorated HO version and paint & decal it accordingly. Thanks for those pics they are very good.

Use the arrows to go back and forth to see all the photos at that site.
There is at least one forum member who has volunteered with the 3985 (and 844) on some of their runs. I will email him and see if he can provide any more info that might help you.
You are welcome to email me or aim me.

This tool car was converted from a series 9300-9399 postal storage car. These cars were built by St. Louis Car Co. in 1964, were withdrawn from mail service in 1967, and were classified by the UP as BE-70-1. The interior length is 60'.
IIRC, Quality Craft produced an HO scale craftsman-type kit of these cars in the late 1960s. You might be able to find one on eBay.
