Yes, I've done it a number of times. <br /> <br />Basically, it depends on the railroad you are interested in. Sometimes there are alternatives. <br /> <br />I have a several page writeup about goign to the archives and researching topics if interested. <br /> <br />For the maps section, it would be a good idea to call ahead, and let them know what you are interested in. bear in mind that it MAY be the case that they may not have it at College Park - that particular map may be at another location (New York, Chicago, Denver, etc.). Once you have ascertained it is in College Park, and it is available for duplication, and you decide you want to go (be aware that they can make copies for you, but there is (of course) a fee) you should know that the map room is usually closed on Saturday and the reproduction of maps is likewise closed.
