Hello "beauyboy,"

"Model Railroader" has published several drawings of 2-foot gauge prototype equipment, including:

SR&RL 2-4-4T
June 1957 page 50

Narrow gauge combine
Model Railroader, June 1957 page 50

Two-foot narrow-gauge cars (B&B)
November 1962 page 42

SR&RL caboose 551
Model Railroader, February 1977 page 76

SR&RL combine no. 14
November 1978 page 67

A two-foot gauge RPO/Baggage car (SR&RL no. 6)
August 1999 page 78

You can buy back issues of MR in the shopping section of this Web site, or order photocopies of out-of-print back issues there or by e-mail from customerservice@kalmbach.com. To find copies of out-of-print issues, try the dealer Railpub, at www.railpub.com.

There really wasn't much if any 2-1/2-foot gauge prototype equipment in this country. This gauge has been used by model railroaders to represent 2-foot (and sometimes 3-foot) gauge equipment on the track of a smaller scale. For example, HOn2-1/2 models use N gauge track, and On2-1/2 models use HO gauge track.

Good luck,

Andy

Beauyboy,
Andy gave you a very good answer, especially in regard to 2 1/2 foot gauge, but you may also want to run a search at the Index of Magazines at this site and in addition to Model Railroader articles, look for articles that have appeared in the Narrow Gauge & Short Line Gazette:
http://www.NGSLgazette.com
Another publication you might be interested in is the Maine 2 Foot Quarterly:
http://www.maine2footquarterly.com
Hope this helps.

in retrospect I am also interested at looking 3foot as they are closer to 2foot6 than 2foot in size wise. I am grateful for the help but I have no access to old mags!

Beauyboy,
I don't know where you live, but back copy alternatives include large public libraries and local hobby shops. I don't know what your budget is, but if you can narrow your wants to specific rolling stock, Model Railroader photocopies are available, as Andy pointed out. For the other magazines, Google search for their publishers, or contact the NMRA's Kalmbach Memorial Library:
http://www.nmra.org/library/
Their photocopy rate is reasonable, even if you're not a member. My budget was very limited when I started in this hobby, I had to prioritize my wants.

If you ever find an out of print magazine in our Index of Magazines (aka The Model Train Index), one source to check (after checking our online catalog www.kalmbachbooks.com) would be www.railpub.com. They carry a huge selection of out of print model railroad and railroad magazines.

Good luck,
Erik
