steam engine cab windows

My Powerhouse stamped brass 2-8-2 had double windows on both sides of the cab and i decided to trim out the rear windows to make it appear that they were open.I had the cab removed from the engine, and don't ya know, i removed the front window, leaving the rear in place.Well, that didn't look right,so i removed the rear windows also. Now I have this big opening.I realize that the prototype had a sliding ,by-pass window. Was the front window stationary or could they both be slid into the cab structure(like a pocket door)? If it's prototypical,i'll leave it .If not, then i'll have to make a couple.

Usually, the front window can be completely removed. Lots of railroads did this in the midwest, south, or anywhere else you had a long, hot summer. I've got loads of photos showing NKP steamer cabs with no windows in them at all during the summer, and the same engine buttoned up tight during the winter.

Thank you Ray....I'll leave them out (for now) untill I can pick up a old shell and see if I can get the windows to work in my screw up.
