Los Angeles Junction Railway Question
Posted by Colorado Ray on Saturday, January 8, 2022 7:49 PM

As I continue research for my SP Burbank layout, I run Into some questions that I can't find answered after numerous Google searches.  Specifically, did the Los Angeles Junction Railway (LAJ) have any revenue freight cars?

The LAJ was a wholly owned subsidiary of the Santa Fe (1950s era).  I don't have access to an Official Railway Equipment Resister but I found a link to the Table of Contents for a 1954 edition that shows that LAJ is on page 411.  I assume this could just be MoW equipment, or it could be revenue freight cars.  Does anyone know for sure.

Thanks, Ray

Ray,

I've got a copy of the July 1955 ORER.  The LAJ is on page 272, with no rolling stock listed.

The April 1941 copy shows no cars listed for interchange, but it does mention the existence of 2 box cars ("Freight cars owned are not employed in Commercial Service.").

My earliest one, November of 1926, shows 2 flats, 201 and 202.  The former is 40', the latter 32'.  They apparently COULD be used in interchange.

Thanks Ed!

That's kinda what I expected, but it's nice to have confirmation.
