Steam Sawmill Video

One of the most popular themes in model railroading is the logging railroad and its sawmill. If you've been bitten by the bug, enjoy this

Also, fairly unknown but an excellent place to visit

A single tree and so much lumber. A true gift from nature. And that steam engine can sure power-up that saw!

Thanks for sharing.

Glad you enjoyed it. My pike is a combination of the Bellefonte Central and East Broad Top, interchanging with the Pennsy, featuring logging, iron ore, coal and limestone traffic as well as general freight and the local passenger runs. I attended Penn State as an undergrad, so all of this is home ground. BTW, PSU's Mont Alto Campus was founded as the State Forestry Academy, which shows how important this industry once was. Penn State absorbed the Academy in the late Twenties - and you can still get a degree in Forestry from the University.

When I was in grad school, I would take a break by borrowing this from the school library and reading it - all thirteen volumes!

Neat!  I've seen similar mills, but they were diesel powered.

Been in a couple of old machine shops with belt drives, amazing to watch things work.
